The Othakarhaka Foundation has been a long time partner of Letters Without Borders, and was the original creator of the penpal program with Flintridge Preparatory School teacher Ms. Hilary Thomas. Started in 2013, the foundation fights for gender equality, female education, and sustainability in Malawi. Under the guidance of Ida Puliwa, Othakarhaka has sent numerous female students to university and beyond, some of which are young women who have escaped forced marriages through the support of the foundation.
